17/01/06 Multimedia Information Retrieval Exam
My MIR exam at DCU happens on Thursday at 1400hrs, it should be an interesting affair. The content is good, much of it centres on the inner workings of a search engine, detailing the page rank system, and information extraction from a document. Information extraction is a huge topic, trying to ascertain elements from a page and define them as content types. For example pulling out cinema times, names linked to job titles, event dates, etc. as data fields.
They say that tagging a document is only the admittance that information retrieval is not advanced enough. Well I think that ‘structured blogging‘ is the admittance that information extraction is not advanced enough.
