24/03/06 CommentCasting - Audio Feed’back

Comment Casting

UPDATE 27/03 : This post is confusing, as I link to uses of CommentCasting on blogs as a test. Really, CommentCasting is about providing an invisible service to embed listeners comments into your podcast feed, subscribe to an example.

Original Post 24/03:
CommentCasting Beta has launched. All systems are ‘go’ for the test trial at the moment. You can see both on the left menu here and on Geared Up blog, I have added icons to let you subscribe to the ‘CommentCast’ directly.

If you’d like to test the system, and add a comment to this blog, I have turned off moderation for the account so your comment will be added into the RSS immediately. To try it, dial 076 602 0927 and enter ID 107 for this blog. If you check the feed (add a live bookmark, subscribe in iTunes or see the public directory page) you will hear your recording back.

I look forward to listening! Prize for the funniest comment!

More importantly, if you run a Podcast and can spare me some time by trying out CommentCasting, I will send you a Beta Tester Invite.

[...] CommentCasting has been born. Well done to Robin Blandford on this and it really looks like a good addition to podcasting. What I especially like about it is that it doesn’t require a broadband connection to interact with a podcast or the website it is hosted on. I bet there’ll be lots of uses for this technology that Robin never considered. That’s one of the things I love about tech evolution. [...]

28/03/06 Commentcasting at Ambrand Dot Com

[...] Bytesurgery has developed a system whereby blog readers can leave audio comments instead of the usual text comments at the end of blog posts. Most are familiar with the concept of audio feedback from the Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code, but that is a podcast, not a blog. Currently users input their audio comments into the Commentcasting system by calling an Irish number +353 76 6020927 and entering the “extension” of the relevant blog. The 076 area code is for a VOIP provider. I would prefer to see a Java Applet with a PTT button instead in the comment section of the blog post. A similar applet allowing realtime half duplex converstions between multiple users exists, and indeed was popular back in the dot com days on many sites. Apart from saving time using existing VOIP server side wave creation, the only reason I can see for using a “landline” is to make a profit by using a premium number (not 1550, but maybe 0818).
