30/10/06 GeoQuality Property Search Proposal

I’ve made available for download the PDF of an assignment completed in a module last year entitled ‘Multimedia Information Retrieval’ at DCU. We were requested to design and specify a new style of search engine. The ‘GeoQuality Property Search’ method was my idea of doing image analysis on maps to prioritise result listings for our group submission.

The basic function of this information retrieval system is to provide a property search for potential buyers. Adding new features to the search mechanism so that users can receive more accurate results ranked by the quality of what they want from their new home and surrounding area. There are two main features; the first is to use slider bars so users can set there preferences of a certain attribute such as rural - suburban. The second feature will be the use of image analysis by map to determine how far away the location is from certain facilities (e.g. airport, motorways, train stations).

This document outlines the methods and systems used to design and implement such this system, and discuss in further details the graphical analysis and property ranking techniques.
