31/01/07 Irish Digital Media Awards 2007

I won 2 Golden Spiders at ages 16 & 17. Back then, like most people I really had admiration for the awards… but in recent years it’s become a brown envelope ’sponsor a category and you’ll win it’ affair.

But then, out came the Digital Media Awards which seemed to bring back the awards in Ireland to those who deserved it. Until now.

Ok, I need to be very careful here as I have friends who co-host the show and I’ve been in previous correspondence with the station owner. I think it’s great to see a Scouting website being given an award, I’m a big advocate of Scouting for teenagers as you know. But how Scouting Radio has been shortlisted as Ireland’s “Best Designed Website” I just don’t know. Something must be wrong.

The Den was also shortlised under the same award. Didn’t they just re-launch all of RTE.ie last night, so how’s that work?

Anyway, good luck Simon & Justin on the night, and to this lot who are heading there too.

I think you get a little skewing of entrants when you run a pay-to-enter competition. Let’s hope the judges maintain the integrity of the event.

Ha… The excitement must have really got to the scouts, that or too much bubbly as they celebrated their success with some spelling mistakes!
