22/02/07 Berties Bebo Makes British News
Walking into work this morning - I spot a story about “Bertie Ahern Figure Skating” flash up on our giant jumbotron Reuters news screen in the plaza. Naturally I go to look it up at my desk.
I’m pretty shocked to find the news story “Internet spoof lampoons figure-skating Irish PM“.
Thousands have visited the bogus entry on Bebo.com, a site where people create their own Web page, make new friends and share their thoughts and pictures.
The joke profile lists Ahern’s friends as Jesus Christ, Bart Simpson and Northern Irish politician Gerry Adams, while his hobbies are “dance music, badminton and soccer”.
How does some kid creating a fake entry on Bebo make international news? It’s just a bebo profile - and I’m sure Bertie is not first. I’m not really surprised they haven’t issued any comment to be honest.
Ahern’s office had no comment.
