05/12/07 Socpreneur: Accidental Charity
LONDON, UK - Ever since hearing Liam Black, CEO of Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen, give his talk about being a successful social entrepreneur I’ve had a niggle that based on how I enjoy spending my free time that’s what I should be doing to create income. I’ve always been passionate about creating great things in communities which is part of my interest in the rescue & youth services. The issue with social enterprise is finding ideas simple enough to make profit that can still return value to the community.
I’m always on the look out for inspiration and it’s idea’s like, “A Blind Call” that give me a buzz!

Belgian ad agency Duval Guillaume came up with a clever campaign that turns accidental calls into accidental donations to the Belgian League for the Blind. They’re asking people to add ‘A Blind Call’ to their list of contacts (for those of you in Belgium, the phone number is 070 222260). Every time the number is called, A Blind Call is given a cut of the call’s proceeds. Calls are cut off after 30 seconds, and the cost to the dialler is never more than EUR 0.75.
Accidental charity - now there’s a great niche.
(Event was hosted by Conor Foley and the Irish International Business Network.)
