18/02/08 Content Is King. Don’t Force It…
SINGAPORE - When a site is all about ‘user generated content (UGC)’, encouraging UGC needs to be the first priority. But it’s not about blogging, it’s not about writing, it’s not about uploading your photos, neither is it about putting together creative pieces.
It’s all about publishing, and re-publishing.
Blogging is only for the minority who like to broadcast their view and reputation in the long articles starting with a blank page. Others prefer a starting point, a topic to debate or something commentate on.
The ability to publish & share an object is more powerful than forcing a blank document on people. Anything from my network or a site should be shareable itself. Users like to add commentary to items and share them with their own network.
Publishing should come in many forms long-text, short-updates, visual images, objects, news, external links - giving users just a blank rich text editor will result in a very low chatter network.
