02/03/08 Behind the scenes…
SINGAPORE - I’m redesigning the theme on this blog. I plan to make it available for download once finished. If you’re interested in seeing the ‘work in progress’ you can follow at this URL. It will probably take me a number of days (10?). I’ll post status updates below.
Current Status:
Day 0 - Duplicate of database and blog created on beta url. Installed Elliot Jay Stocks ‘Starkers’ theme as a starting point. Planning to use Blueprint to style CSS.
Day 1 - Ok things are beginning to take shape on the index.php file. I’ve come up with a nice script to pull names out onto the homepage. Experimenting with nested em sizes to vary fonts a bit, and mixing serif sans serif. Never done a background on a ’strong’ tag either.
Day 4 - Thunderbirds are go!

I hadn’t heard of Blueprint, any idea how it compares to the YUI stuff?
Andy, Blueprint is much lighter than the YUI stuff but conforms better to best web design standards. I recommend anyone who needs to build CSS layouts on a regular basis to give it at least an hour of their time.
Robin, make sure to check out the Sandbox WP theme before you get too stuck into the Starkers theme.
@Eoghan - I started with Sandbox but gave up. Should go back to it now rather than later? I’ll take your advice on it.
@Andy - I’ve no knowlegde of YUI…. Yahoo CSS Grids? Sorry :-( I only came across Blueprint the other day on Eoghan’s blog.
