24/06/08 Live vs Static TV and Web
CHICAGO, UNITED STATES - I’ve been watching Hulu.com since arriving in the States. It’s TV on-demand, and with my Macbook video-out connected to our TV, it’s very very appealing. So much so - I’ll miss it when I go home.
But - here’s the thing, there’s something nice, I can’t put my finger on, about watching live TV too, no matter how trashy it is.
Why…
- You don’t know what’s coming up?
- Feeling of not having to pay attention?
- Not guilty for picking wrong thing?
- Feeling of Connectedness with others?
- Networks schedule related content together?
- Having watched the same thing as others?
- Getting the very latest of something?
- Being average?
How does this apply to the web where almost everything is on-demand? Do we need to automate parts of it for people?

Hi Robin.
Reallly good website. Found it through grannymar via Steph.
Totally agree with your live TV analysis. Eventually I think most if not all TV will be viewed via the net.
I am a big fan of Quicktime encoder. There is much talk of Flash video at the moment but I think QT is a far better encoder and eventually it will assume a dominant role in the market for live(QT broadcaster) and on demand streaming
All the best
